The subject of this post (if you are a lady or even if you are not) should hopefully send a thrill right through any latent creative tendencies you have - and if you are reading this blog I assume you do. Ladies. Drawing. Night. What a gladdening vision those words conjure up.
The Ladies Drawing Night started off with a hashtag - as do any good things these days, when Brooklyn artists Julia Rothman, Leah Goren and Rachael Cole began to host regular art gatherings together. Their followers began to host their own nights too and the hashtag grew some legs...
Luckily for the rest of us who aren't quite sure how to begin - the trio have just published a beautiful book of the same name with a guide on how to host your own drawing evenings.

Each chapter of Ladies Drawing Night includes loads of exciting artwork, insights about drawing, and instructions for that night's project. Throughout the book, the three women discuss why an all-women night of creativity is important to them ― “For us, there is limited time with just women. We really enjoy it, so we stick to it.” ― and how fans of their ritual can join in the fun. I just love how this idea unites women to draw together, and builds a comfortable space where art is encouraged amongst a community of creative women supporting each other.
I also love how you are left with a hopefully great piece of artwork to hang in your home - or gift. All you need are some art supplies and a group of women you love. Plus wine and snacks!
Also check out the hashtag #ladiesdrawingnight it makes me so happy. Images courtesy of Chronicle Books and Buy Olympia.
